How to run SQL against Oracle Fusion Cloud from VS Code
Fusion Cloud gives developers no SQL console, so ad-hoc questions about your data usually mean a trip through BI Publisher. This guide explains that route and how to shorten it.
Why there is no SQL console
In Oracle Fusion Cloud the supported way to read the data model with SQL is BI Publisher. You create a data model with a SQL data set, run it, and open the output. It works, and it was not built for quick questions.
The usual workflow, and where the time goes
- Open BI Publisher and create or edit a data model.
- Paste your SQL into a data set and save.
- Run the report and open the output.
- Change the SQL, then repeat.
Each loop takes minutes. Autocomplete is missing, so you keep a tables-and-views reference open in another tab. Queries end up in notes, tickets and email threads, and results arrive as XML or a download you reopen in Excel to sort or filter.
Running SQL from VS Code instead
FuiSQL is a VS Code extension that uses the BI Publisher report service your Fusion pod already exposes. You write SQL in the editor and run it with a keyboard shortcut. Results appear in a sortable, filterable grid, 100 rows a page.
- Column-level IntelliSense for keywords, Oracle functions, Fusion tables and their columns across Financials, HCM, PPM and Procurement.
- Join suggestions while you type, so you do not hunt for join conditions.
- History, bookmarks and a formatter to keep your SQL organised.
- Export to Excel, CSV, TSV or JSON.
What you need first
- A Fusion account with access to BI Publisher.
- A one-time upload of the bundled FuiSQL report to your BI Catalog, which a BI Administrator or BI Author can do in a minute.
- VS Code.
Queries run with exactly the privileges your Fusion account already has. FuiSQL adds no access. See how credentials and data are handled.
Tips for your first queries
- Start with a table you know, and let autocomplete show its columns.
- Use query parameters (
:name) instead of editing values in the SQL. - Keep long queries in a file with a few queries per file, rather than in a ticket.

Frequently asked questions
Does FuiSQL need a server or proxy?
No. Your editor talks straight to your Fusion pod through Oracle's BI Publisher web service. FuiSQL's servers only see license requests, never your queries or results.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. You can start a free trial from the FuiSQL page, and the pricing page lists the plans.
