Understanding Functional Setup Manager exports for comparison
Comparing Oracle Fusion environments starts with exporting the same setup from each. This page explains what those exports are, what makes two of them comparable, and where the limits are.
What a setup export is
Functional Setup Manager (FSM) can export the setup data of a task, functional area or offering as a package of CSV files. Each file holds the rows of one setup object, for example the records behind one setup screen.
Exports are meant for moving setup between environments, which is why they are also a good basis for comparing them.
What makes two exports comparable
- The same task list. A task exported from one environment and not the other cannot be compared.
- The same release. A newer environment can have columns the older one lacks.
- A business key. Rows must be matched by what identifies them, such as a code or name, not by line number.
- Ignored columns. Internal identifiers and timestamps differ by design and should be excluded.
Limits to expect
- Not every task can be exported. Those must be checked another way.
- An export can fail for privilege or environment reasons. A failed export is a gap, not a match.
- Large tasks take longer and produce large files.
- Exports can contain sensitive setup values. Treat them like any other customer data.
How Fusion Compare uses exports
Fusion Compare asks each environment to export the tasks you chose, stores the exports on your computer, and compares them task by task. Results show what was added, what is missing and what changed, a drift report for each task, and which tasks could not be compared. It never imports anything into either environment. See how to compare environments.
Frequently asked questions
Where are the exports stored?
In a folder on your computer. FuiSQL does not receive your setup data, and the extension sends no usage telemetry.
Can I reuse an export for another comparison?
Yes. Fusion Compare can reuse an existing export or export again when you ask it to.
Try it on one functional area. Fusion Compare is a VS Code extension, free to start.
